An icon on Sandringham Road, all heads turn when they approach this cheery red diner. Not one to blend into the crowd, Papa's Italian Eatery sings its joy from the rooftop, inviting everyone to indulge in the innate beauty of rustic Italian fare.

When it comes to Papa's, what you see is what you get. Equally as bright and happy on the inside as it is on the outside, communal dining is at the heart of the whole experience as families big and small squidge into vibrant red booths and lovers cosy up in candlelit corners whilst the alfresco diners' laughter bubbles away in the background. Needless to say, the staff treat everyone like a long-lost family, creating a warm and chatty atmosphere that diners simply can't get enough of.

The menu is centred on the homemade dishes that family suppers are made of. Expect handmade pasta, pizza and sauces done to perfection, much like their beef brisket pappardelle, bacon and mushroom fettuccine and not-to-be-missed seafood gnocchi. Alternatively, go for something you wouldn't necessarily cook at home, like a plate of Papa's homemade ravioli.

Papa mia! That's not even half of it! They have handmade pizzas too, wholemeal, white and semolina flour using the original recipe from 1984 when the restaurant first opened its doors. Healthy with no preservatives and low GI which put their perfect crispy bases front and centre. Have yours with spicy pepperoni, salty prosciutto, smoked salmon... the toppings list goes on. Just don't forget to leave room for Papa's Dolce of the week... you can always bet he has a surprise or two up his sleeve.
