dinner

Tucked in Grey Lynn, Auckland, The Surrey Hotel and Pub leans into an English-style charm that feels instantly familiar. It's a classic pub at heart, made cosy by warm timber, gentle chatter and that sense that each table has a tale to tell. The welcome is unfussy and genuine, setting the tone for relaxed dining from early evening through to lingering nights.

In the kitchen, the focus is simple, homestyle cooking done with care. The range runs from steaks to pizzas, with hearty favourites arriving generous and satisfying. Start with crisp salt and pepper squid, or savour slow-cooked lamb shanks in rich jus with soft mash and braised red cabbage.

Pizza traditionalists will find solace in a Margherita with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil pesto, while the chicken, cranberry and Brie number adds a sweet-savoury twist. For pure pub pleasure, the house beef burger with fries does exactly what it promises.

At the bar, a wide array of refreshing drinks makes it easy to settle in, whether you're a hotel guest, a local or bringing the family. This is a place for easy conversation, good company and plates that please.

Pull up a chair, choose a drink and let the kitchen do the talking - comfort served with character, and a smile to match!
