Urban India Bar and Eatery brings a warmly spiced sweep of the subcontinent to the neighbourhood, blending beloved Indian comforts with Nepalese touches and a hint of Indo-Chinese fire. It is the kind of place where sharing is second nature and the first aromas arriving at the table do all the introductions.

The experience often begins with a sizzle: platters for two piled with samosa, onion bhaji, harabhara kebab and veg bullet, or a mixed spread that brings in chicken tikka and seekh kebab. Nepal’s signature Mo:Mo makes a welcome cameo, steamed or fried, ready for dunking and devouring.

Curries here lean into bold, crowd-pleasing flavours, from butter chicken and chicken tikka masala to butter prawns or fish — while malabari notes of coconut, capsicum and onion add coastal warmth. Vegetarians find solace in bhindi masala and begani bharta, while lamb rogan josh and fragrant biryanis carry gentle heat and depth. Tandoori naan arrives soft and blistered for scooping, with a side-road to Indo-Chinese cravings in veg noodle and semi-dry chilli paneer. To finish, gulab jamun and mango kulfi sweeten the deal.

Gather the crew, follow the sizzle and settle in for spice, comfort and plenty to pass around. Go on — make a date with flavour, and naan the wiser.
