In Ponsonby, Auckland, The Gyoza Bar leans into the comforting cadence of Japanese bar dining, where dumplings lead the dance and craft lives in the details. The room hums with an easy rhythm, inviting guests to settle in for something simple, satisfying and full of heart.

At the centre of the menu are the signature gyoza, folded and cooked to order. Expect classic fillings like minced pork with cabbage, onion and garlic, alongside prawn gyoza lifted with yuzu pepper, all paired with a tangy house-made soy and vinegar dipping sauce.

Beyond the dumplings, the menu moves through small plates and bowls made for sharing. Crispy calamari with wasabi mayo, hakata tonkotsu ramen and roasted duck cold udon sit alongside heartier options like salmon donburi or teriyaki chicken with steamed rice, mentaiko and a choice of soup.

Whether it is a quick stop for dumplings or an unhurried graze across the menu, The Gyoza Bar keeps the focus on balance, texture and good cheer. Pull up a seat, bring an appetite, and give it a gyoza.
