dinner

Meaning 'Pearl' in Malay, it's no surprise that Mutiara Malaysian Restaurant considers itself to be the jewel in Auckland's dining scene. Located in trendy Ponsonby, this casual-chic gem first opened its doors in 1996, making it one of the oldest establishments on Ponsonby road.

Head Chef Roy Lim is a stickler for tradition, using only the best and freshest ingredients in his moreish Malaysian dishes, the roots of which come from his birthplace, 'Food Heaven' Penang. Roy blends together the fragrant flavours of Malaysia's Chinese, Indian and native Malay influences to create a tantalising menu of authentic Malay cuisine.

Drawing on their multi-ethnic heritage, Malaysian cooks have developed unique variations on Asian favourites such as Malay satay, Chinese fried noodles and Indian curry puffs. But that’s only the beginning. You will also find unusual creations like their savoury butter prawns - a dish that cleverly blends spices and seasoning from all of Malaysia’s major ethnic groups. Malaysian food is truly a melting pot of cultures and culinary styles.

As well as hosting intimate date nights, families enjoying a night out and groups of friends celebrating a birthday, don't be surprised to see first-date daters and business partners sealing deals.
