You don't have to be mad, but it helps. Over at this quirky Japanese restaurant, prepare to see things differently and experience this cuisine like never before.

Mad Samurai is here to show what traditional Japanese is like in a modern setting. You'll find them tucked away up a side street, and if their cutesy exterior doesn't coax you in, the smells certainly will. They're part bistro, part Japanese eatery with the exposed kitchen giving you a sneak peek into some of the most ancient cooking methods in the world. It creates the underlying humdrum that affords Mad Samurai its endless charm. All you have to do is gaze at the blackboard from your seat to figure out which specialty you want to try this evening.

There are bound to be some things you haven't tried before, which is the beauty of Mad Samurai. Like many Japanese menus, the offerings are very varied and range from warm mains that include a stunning wagyu beef and Kurobuta Park meatloaf, miso salmon, and a wagyu black burger that puts a Japanese spin on our favourite American comfort food.

No Japanese menu is complete without sushi, though, and they're going for gold with sashimi, nigiri, tempura rolls and bento plates. If you want to mix and match, opt for a platter that has the best of all worlds. And if you need to turn into a samurai in order to procure the last morsel, so be it. Sushi is always worth going the extra mile.
