In the heart of Auckland City Centre, Ikkyu keeps its promise simple: good food, done right. Consistency sits at the core, with genuine Japanese flavours leading the way and an easy warmth that encourages guests to settle in and stay awhile.

The dinner set offers a clear snapshot of the kitchen’s approach, bringing together deep-fried veg gyoza with a satisfying crackle, a feather-light veg tempura fritter, and the comforting appeal of chicken katsu or a homely veg croquette. Each dish leans into familiar flavours, handled with care and confidence.

There is brightness in the deep-fried fish marinated in tangy sauce, balanced by the soft savour of deep-fried tofu. The experience continues with a hearty bowl of ramen, with the option to swap for veg udon noodles, followed by a serving of ice cream that rounds things off on a gently indulgent note.

Unpretentious and relaxed, Ikkyu suits a midweek wind-down or an easy catch-up with friends. It is a place where contrast and comfort meet, and where the food does the talking from first bite to last.
