Prodigal Daughter at Wakelin House in Greytown is an Italian-style restaurant, wine bar and deli, offering a delicioso and varied menu and wine list. The menu showcases owner Rachel Priestleyâs âProdigal Daughter Butcheryâ award-winning cured meats, along with a select choice of the finest Italian dishes, using local and free range ingredients where possible.
Rachel trained with experts in the traditional art of curing meats the natural way while working in the Italian wine and restaurant industry for 10 years. She initially started Prodigal Daughter to bring the best produce, hospitality style â âItalians believe food, wine and conversation are as important as breathing airâ â and wines from Italy to New Zealand, before developing her own brands using local produce.
Start your lunch or dinner with a shared Prodigal Daughter Charcuterie Platter. Try squid tentacles or some arancini balls. Carry on with a Sicilian pasta dish, or Rachelâs signature porchetta â rolled roast pork belly with green fennel slaw and Greytown plum sauce. Or beef ribeye with truffle, salsa verde and potato skins. Fancy something for afters? The dolci e formaggio menu offers a show-stopping chai latte pannacotta, a salted caramel chocolate ganache; or a cheese platter served with japonica apple jelly.
Prodigal Daughterâs summer season programme includes monthly live music in the courtyard and al fresco dining in the beautiful courtyard.
Open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and lunch Friday to Sunday, youâre in for an authentic Italian treat at Prodigal Daughter. And if you want to take home a slice of Italy with you, there is a range of charcuterie products and bacon made on premise - be sure to check out the deli inside.
