We loved dining at La Capilla. There aren't many places in Nelson where you can get a fabulous 5 course meal. We will be back!

This was our first time using First Table and it has proved to be a wonderful initiative! We booked our weekly 'date night' dinner as La Capilla had good reviews on Google especially for a romantic experience. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were greeted very friendly and professionally and seated close to a beautiful warm fire place. This was perfect as it was raining this night. The waitress was very curious and attentive, but never bothering us. They had a 'special of the day' priced very reasonably which we took as our starter. The dish was beautifully assembled with flavours of Tamarillo and chili sorbet complimenting the Gurnard fish. For mains we had the Lamb and Ribeye. The lamb cutlets had a delicious grilled flavour set on lentils and Bulgar wheat with a soft curried flavour. The Ribeye was a large portion perfectly prepared and accompanied by a smokey crisp potato croquette the size of my palm. To finish the meal we had to choose between 4 dessert options, but being so full already we shared the Cremé Brule. Any French chef would have given it a 5/5, but the trophy on this dessert was the strawberry sorbet. The texture was smooth and creamy and bursting with flavour. I would go back just for that!
The restaurant was quiet being a midweek night, but cozy. It would be nice to have cushions on the chairs as they are wooden and becomes rather hard after an hour or 2.
We will definitely be back to try more of the chef's wonderful creations, especially in summer when you can sit outside in the sunshine. Well done!

An excellent dining experience at La Capilla. We opted for the degustation menu. We were not disappointed! The smoked pumpkin soup and home baked rolls were delicious. The second course was outstanding with a surprising tamarillo/chilli sorbet. The Ox cheek, pan fried fish, and lamb rump were tasty and beautifully presented, all with creative sauces and fresh, local ingredients. The green tea cream cheesecake was a sensational final. Thanks to Rie and her colleagues for top class service. La Capilla is definitely the best local restaurant in this price range. Highly recommended.

Wonderful food, maybe the best in the Nelson area. You could taste how fresh and well prepared everything was. Well trained and highly experienced chef, and it shows. Full prices rival the more expensive places in town, but at first table prices, this is hard to beat! Plus, the old chapel atmosphere felt special (and quiet, unlike some other noisy bistros). We'll be back for sure!

The food at La Capilla is superb: top-quality ingredients combined imaginatively and creatively to produce wonderful dishes. Our Entrées included: Gazpacho with Argentinian Prawns, Smoked Salmon with green beans and potato salad, Vivavio Cheese and Heck Angus Beef Carpaccio, Spanish Omelette. The Giant Prawns delighted the two fish eaters and the rib-eye steak mains with Daupinoise potatoes and green peppercorn sauce the two meat eaters. Complimentary home-baked Buckwheat rolls, sides of Garden salad, ratatouille and potato wedges were generously sized and all delicious.

Quite why more discerning diners do not venture away from Trafalgar Street, the city centre and the waterfront to taste this wonderful food is a mystery to us!

Me and my hubby had a beautiful date night at La Capilla last night! The food was just sensational! Fresh and bursting with well thought-out flavour combinations!! Chef Takeshi served up 'perfection on a plate' once again and we are not shy in telling everyone La Capilla is a must to try and our favorite casual fine-dining venue in Nelson/Richmond
Thank you so much team and we look forward to dining here again in the near future! ✔✔✔

We had a great dinner at la Capella. The food was amazing, delicious flavours and nicely presented. A wonderful and breezy venue on a warm summer's night. Attentive and friendly staff. The only downside was that we weren't allowed to take the bottle of wine with some left with us.

The bruschetta toppings were innovative & delicious.
I asked for the eggplant & haloumi entree to be served as a main. It was excellent - I have never eaten such delicious haloumi before. My partners steak meal was great.
The desserts were exquisite - the combinations of flavours just popped in our mouths - an excellent end to a perfect meal.
Definitely will be returning.

La Capilla is wonderful. The service, the ambiance, the wines, and especially the food. The food is divine. Every dish is a picture. Every mouthful is exquisite.
Takeshi is a 5 Star chef who’s presentation of every plate is immaculate - fine dining at its finest.

Well worth the drive out of the city

Wow, so we ( a group of 3 keen foodies ) decided on trying La Capilla as it is a new restaurant popping up on first table. This dining experience was EPIC! Our host was super attentive, the atmosphere was tip-top ( roaring fire place, casual but classy dining set-up) and the food......fantastic!! We were tossing up between the degustation menu or regular a la carte option and went with the degustation,, excellent decision!! Every single item on every single dish was executed with total perfection and complimented each individual dish! To see and taste the passion behind every 'move' on each dish was so refreshing and a little unexpected! We can only recommend this place to you all as an absolute MUST TRY!! We are already talking about the next time we are going here!!! Totally spot on experience! Thank you sooo much La Capilla!!

Food was tasty but some strange flavour combinations, trying to mix Spanish and Japanese flavours....
Very expensive with small servings. There are plenty of better restaurants in Nelson that don't charge half as much...

Food was beautifully presented as usual. Service was ok - obviously one waitress was learning and was being incredibly particular to get our order right which is both good and a tad annoying. I always enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at La Capilla, but it was Friday night and there was guitarist playing. He was good but at times was too loud for us to enjoy our conversation.

Home made bread, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented food, the best ever creme brûlée. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Lovely setting, nice and warm on a cold winter's night and delightful degustation menu. My only suggested inprovement is to add a little more vegetable with the degustation menu as it is quite meaty.

This is our second visit and we were just as thrilled with our dining experience as the first time. The waitress was attentive without being intrusive. The duck and steak both cooked to perfection. I even got to try a brand new dessert, coffee and whiskey mouse, can't remember the name but it was devine and served so beautifully. The atmosphere is cosy and feels intimate. Absolutely love La Capilla

The atmosphere in this historical building is charming! Cosy and romantic. The service was old school (just how I like it) and the food was very thoughtfully plated and delicious. The menu has something for everyone and we will be back again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Great value fine dining quality. Varied choice of food freshly cooked and well presented. The Chef is right on top of his game and you would go a long way to dine with such variety and quality in Nelson. Venue is an historic converted Chapel with rimu floors and a depth of wood finishing.

Interesting menu followed by exquisite dishes served by attentive and knowledgeable staff. Cozy venue allowed us to hear flamenco guitar maestro Miles Jackson matching his music to the Spanish style cuisine. A memorable dinner occasion thanks Take and your team.

Four of us totally enjoyed our meals at LA Capilla last week. The combination of food was beautiful and we will go back for sure . Will have to, as want to try other dishes that looked so good too. The Duck was beautifully tender and beetroot with it was perfect. Great chef there.

This experience far exceeded my expectations! I have a gluten allergy and was over the moon to discover that EVERY desert on the menu was gluten free.
My main was the duck; just amazing. My partner chose the steak and was equally pleased. Thank you to the lovely young French woman who served us, she was just lovely and took care of our every need. Thank you La capilla, we will be back:)

This was our first time at La Capilla and we will certainly be back again. The food was just delicious. We had the duck breast which was so tender and tasty. Our friend had a steak and she said it was the best she's ever had.

La Capilla is a stunning fine dining experience which is incredibly good value on First Table. Chef is innovative and subtle - for example, one of our starters was swordfish ceviche with a chili sorbet! The contrast of chili with the cold sorbet was exciting and an excellent pairing with the fish.

The food was of a very high standard as usual. The chef produces wonderful delicate great quality food. Can't stop keep going back for more.

This was our second visit. La Capella is quickly becoming our favourite. My husband had the gazpacho with is served with two large Argentinian prawns which was fresh and delicious and I try to choose something I am unlikely to have at home so I chose the tuna tartare which I loved. Beautifully seasoned with onion, capers, avocado, sun dried tomatoes, delicious, a great start. My husband just can’t go past duck when it is on the menu and last night was no different and he was not disappointed. Truly delicious. I chose the lamb rump served with roasted eggplant and five grain salad. Wow, it was superb. We had the ratatouille and salad as a side.
We will certainly be back again.

One of our favorite restaurants in the nelson/Tasman area. A true hidden gem of a great unique venue and exceptional food. Every dish is executed beautifully with superb flavor and texture combinations. Loved the gazpacho with seared prawns and never disappointed in the duck breast main course.
