I've passed this restaurant many times without much thought or attention as to what it might be like inside. My fiance and I decided it was time to try somewhere new and we were happy to see this restaurant on firsttable.co.nz.
Walking through the doors for the first time was a pleasant surprise! Being from the United States myself, when I heard the name "Navajo Steakhouse" I instantly made a connection with the Native American culture. The atmosphere was welcoming with a pleasant arrangement of decor, with an open layout. The music playing was from the soundtrack of "The Last of the Mohicans", a movie by Mel Gibson staged in the early western days of settlers in the 1800's, which pulled you further into the mood of the setting. The tables were not placed too closely together and the bar available appeared well maintained and in good order. The windows provided lots of lighting and gave a nice warm feeling to the room. Overall, the first words out of our mouths were "Wow!". Neither of us could believe we had never been there before, it looked awesome inside.

The first person we met was at the bar, who welcomed us with a warm smile, it seemed like she was happy to work there, which is a good sign that an establishment takes care of their staff. That's important to me as it translates to the quality of the service. She guided us to our table, which was a round wooden table, close to the windows in the corner, it looked clean and suitable for a nice dinner. My only disappointment at this point was that I would have prefered maybe a square table, or maybe a slightly larger round one, as I found it difficult to fit everything on it with the menus, and the starter dishes, things got a little bit tight. Even though we were booked as the "first table", there were already a few other groups sitting down, this didn't bother us though, it helped keep things from being awkwardly silent.

We each ordered a drink to start. I had the strawberry lime cider, which I really enjoyed! It came with a chilled glass and was left with the bottle so I could top off my glass when needed. My fiance had the house rosé, which she found to be a bit average, but admitted she preferred cheap sweet wine anyways, but taste is subjective and someone else may find it delightful! We ordered the garlic bread as a starter while we took some time to contemplate the many tempting dishes offered! When the garlic bread arrived, we each reacted with an "oooooooo, that looks tasty" and we were not disappointed. It had a nice balsamic drizzle, zig-zagging over the generously cut pieces of ciabatta bread with pinches of garnish on top and a nice garlic butter glaze. I would have personally prefered it to be more buttey with a stronger garlic flavour, but I would still try it again, the balsamic drizzle helped give it a little extra punch.

We were able to make up our minds for our ever so patient waitress and ordered our mains. I went for the lamb shank and the Mrs. opted for the chicken garden salad. The time spent waiting seemed to go by quickly, but it made me notice the music playing was on repeat. It was a pleasant and relaxing song, don't get me wrong, but I feel like there are more options out there to add to the playlist to keep the western mood going.

Time flew by as we chatted away, and we were soon greeted by our delightful meals. To our dismay, her salad was actually way bigger than we expected, it was comparable to the size of your average university textbook! It was presented nice and symmetrically with straps of tenderloin chicken creating a circle around the plate, like beams of sun exploding out of a picture. The veggies looked fresh and crisp, and there was a good variety of colour and different flavours. The dressing complimented everything nicely, not being too savory or acidic. We each loved it out and would highly recommend it. It would be suitable for any age, gender, appetite large or small.

The lamb shank was on a whole different level. Although it wasn't as large as the salad, it was still impressive in size. I normally order ribs or steak when eating at a nice restaurant like this, but I felt like being a bit adventurous and going for something new, and I'm so happy I did. It came in a raised dish, that entrapped all the sauce and kept the bottom portions marinating away. The lamb was delightfully tender and scraped right off the bone with very little force. Each bite melted in your mouth expressing an array of sweet flavours with perfectly balanced spices and herbs. The shank lied on top of a generous pile of kumra mash and was topped with shredded courgettes, kumra, and garlic. What a flavour rollercoaster! We each loved this dish as well and would highly recommend it. It came at a reasonable price too (another reason I chose this over the steak).

By the time we had each finished our meals, there was no room for desert, although with how our experience was going so far I'm sure it would have been quite the treat. Our waitress was lovely throughout the duration of our stay, making sure to check up on us about every 10 minutes or so and was quick to clear any empty dishes.

Overall, I would give the Navajo Steakhouse and A++ rating and highly recommend experiencing one of their many great dishes. I don't think it would be very suitable to bring kids, although I'm not a parent myself. I feel like it would be better for a mature crowd or a nice date night with a loved one. Thank-you for the great experience, I will be happy to come back another day!

We had the best experience. We were greeted warmly by the young lady and gentleman there. The kids also loved their colour in menus. We ordered and were absolutely pleasantly shocked at the huge sizes of our meals. Even the kids meal was a decent size. Our steaks were cooked exactly how we asked. Everything was seasoned well and well presented as well, as for the deserts. YUMMMMMY! so huge thanks to the chef for the delish food and a huge thanks to the servers. Arrived to warmth and the soft cultural sounds of the Native Indian Flute & big screen of the Navajo people playing in the back round & were shown to our First Table of Four with the heat source blazing above us it was a cosy almost summery feeling.

Once seated our lovely Waitress greeted us with the specials of the day an asked if we'd like any drinks.

We ordered drinks & scrolled through the abundant menu. Our waitress arrived promptly with our drinks and we were ready to order our Entrees.

First up & very fast to our First Table was the deliciously coated melt in your mouth crispy crusted soft in the middle Garlic Bread & sooo tasty.

we loved dipping the bread into the subtle sweet tomatoey gravy sauce of the Seafood combo which consisted of soft to the bite perfectly sized prawns, succulent calamari, juicy scallops four of each item & then the Fall of the bone into our mouths Buffalo chicken wings also in a delicious spicy gravy style sauce. It went so well with the Garlic Bread by this time I was almost full!

Next up our Mains (also came very fast and served on the biggest plates I've ever seen) Thai Beef & Prawn Salad for me. Tender cuts of beef an tasty well sized Prawns firm & juicy to the bite tossed in balsamic mesculin salad with finely shredded red cabbage soo tasty.

For my family the Crispy on top but melt in your mouth Pork Belly, this is how you cook & eat a perfect Pork Belly. This came with delicious potato garlic mash and seasonal vegetables, just perfect.

Tender Lamb Shoulder came with deep saucy gravy that complemented the potato mash & seasonal veges, very tasty an did I mention Tender.

Baby Back Cola Ribs! There was no baby about this dish! Served up was a huge single rack of Pork rib coated in the Navajo Steakhouse special mild spicy cola sauce served on a tasty rice with crispy Fries. That huge plate was so full we needed a doggy bag.

So full by this time but we couldn't go past Desserts Trio Icecream (3 scoops different flavours), Sticky Date pud with a
side of vanilla icecream Yum! &) And classic Brownie all to take Away for later.

Overall a wonderful Ambience & Dining experience with Attentive & Friendly Wait Staff. Cuisine in a flash & made for the Gods with great company to start your night.

First Table all the way with Navajo Steakhouse Palmerston North. You just have to try it! AAA+

To finish there is an amazing choice of desserts.
Service was great, ambiance of restaurant very interesting and the place was not too noisy.

Four of us dined at Navajo on Saturday night, we were looking forward to it as we had heard good comments abut this restaurant. And we were not disappointed. The service was welcoming and friendly. The meals were lovely. Two had Pork Belly and loved it, each had a large piece of crackling, one had the slow cooked lamb, beautiful, and I had the eye fillet with red wine jus, so tender , chips were cooked to perfection golden and crispy A choice of salad or veges, either is a good choice..
All the meals were presented beautifully on huge plates, credit to the wait staff that has to balance these big heavy platters. The place filled up quite quickly from 6pm so obviously a popular restaurant.
Yes we will definatly dine there again.

Navajo Steakhouse what a Beautiful Dining Experience bathed in warmth, soothing native American music and Ambient lighting. One of the most Tantalising places to get Amazing service and Succulent mouth watering Steaks at every bite!!

Our Waitress was very accommodating without being over zealous and introduced us to the specials including Mains and Desserts.

Then the Food including Entrée (Melt in your mouth Garlic bread with a slither of thick Balsamic vinergarette) Main (Eye Fillet Steak (Med) with Kumara Mash, Crunchy Fries, Sweet Mushroom Sauce & Navajo's ever tasty Seasonal Salad) Dessert (Sticky date Pudding with Vanilla Ice cream & whip) all came out at lightning speed & served up on gorgeous oversized plates with generous portions.

Amazing!!! This was our first experience dining in at Navajo and it was stunning.
On arrival, we were greeted warmly, seated and offered drinks and nibbles.
We were both starving so ordered the antipasto and wine and within 10 mins, both were at our at table served with free smiles and light banter.
Moving to mains, the Sirloin cooked medium rare melted like butter, that brisket is just OH MY LIFE!, the kumara mash, chips and salad not to mention the serving sizes all exceeded expectations!
Navajo what a treat! Well definitely be seeing you and more of spectacular selves soon :)

- dined at Navajo Steakhouse on

Definitely the best Steakhouse in Palmerston North I've visited!
Starters were a creamy seafood chowder with buttery Chiabata dipping bread, Seared Medium Scotch Fillet with Kumara mash, creamy mushrooms & side of Fries & Special blend of seasonal Salad and vinegariette sauce. Dessert consisted of a vibrant tasting chocolate mousse with vanilla bean ice cream side which melted in your mouth.

Friends also enjoy the Scotch fillet & Seared - Baked Salmon both cooked to perfection also with seasonal Vegetables

Portion sizes are huge and if you don't leave with a doggy bag you must of been hungry.

Highly recommend dining at Navajo Steakhouse Palmerston North!!

Our family of 4 had an amazing night at Navajo Steakhouse starting with the super friendly welcome. The menu was varied and appealing. My daughters opted to have entrees as mains and their spicy nachos and buffalo wings were very much enjoyed. I had opted for scallops as an entrée which our wonderful waiter insisted had not arrived to our table on time and said they would not be charged for despite my protests! My steak was perfectly cooked and accompanied by generous amounts of vegetables and a choice of potatoes or fries. My husband opted for the Salmon dish on the specials list which was also beautiful. The dessert menu looked tempting but unfortunately we could eat another mouthful. The staff were super friendly and attentive, the atmosphere really interesting and relaxed. We will definitely be returning to Navajo Steakhouse soon. Highly recommended!!

We arrived on time (shocking for us) we were seated promptly, chose what we wanted, explained to Miss 14 what hoki was after she said she didn't like it, ordered what we wanted (pork belly, meatballs and fish and chips) it was delivered quite quickly, we ate and for 2 of us our eyes were bigger than our bellies so we didn't finish it all. Definitely no room for dessert. And we left by 6pm. Great service, amazing food, nice environment, happy tummies. A good night I believe.

The meals at Navajo are substantial and not one of us were able to finish them. The standard of the food was not quite up to the high standard we have previously experienced at Navajo. The Caesar salad was very generous in size but the lettuce was mostly big clumps of lettuce, there was one cherry tomato, no croutons, no bacon and no Parmesan which are all
usually standard with a Caesar salad. The fries I ordered on the side were very average. The fish was lovely though and the scotch fillet looked amazing. I would definitely go again as the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming.

The food was incredible! Fast service, absolutely divine Black Forest Gateau cocktail. I find that at Navajo you leave feeling satisfied with the overall experience. We loved the place and the food. Our teenager got the ribs and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw this huge plate of delicious finger licking goodness placed in front of him. Thank you so much

I wish I got your name so I could give a special thanks. Will definitely be back and highly recommend you to everyone. Thanks everyone!

Best night ever! The service was impeccable! Colouring in pictures and pencils for our moko. Which kept him occupied until entrees and his first plate arrived. The Kai was amazing the entrees were as big as a main meal. The mains arrived and we could not believe our eyes. Presentation was a work of art and the portion was incredible. We all needed takeaway containers! The best family night out ever and we will be back. Have recommended to our friends and whanau and workplaces for Xmas breakups!!!

AAA+
