This cosy, little local provides a quiet, comfortable atmosphere, rich in history.

The Harvard Bar and Café – located at Wigram Base Hotel – is one of Christchurch’s most historic boutique venues.

The original RNZAF Base Wigram Officers Mess was built in 1938, it served officers of Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Wigram for decades. During its time it would see royal visits, dining ins, graduation parties, dinners and events for International delegations.
The Harvard Bar and Café has been renovated and restored with the addition of a covered courtyard and outdoor dinning.

Their menu is focused on delivering a classic style menu with all the old favorites made using local produce, all at a reasonable price.

The bar offers a range of beverages, from fair-trade coffee to craft beers as well as your everyday favorites.

3 of us dined for a birthday meal. It was the first time dining there. The food was wonderful and well cooked. My husband said his steak was one of the best he's had. The place was welcoming and we were well looked after, nothing seemed a problem. When one of the desserts was not available they went out of their way to offer a chocolate "fix" alternative. We will be back.

The food was delicious, and there was plenty of choice on the menu so everyone was happy. Our waiter, who I believe is the manager, was lovely and even let us have a walk around the historic building and taught us some of the history behind it. Will definitely be recommending the restaurant to friends and family

We went there for my Mum's birthday and it totally exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. The decor was comfortable and stylish without being over the top. I loved all the Christmas decorations, it gave it such a nice feeling. It was a very hot day so the air conditioning was a huge relief, when we got there we were told that if it got too cold then just ask and they would adjust it, it was very considerate to ask. My Mum is a vegetarian so it can be difficult to find places where the food caters for her just as well as us and they did an amazing job, they didn't make her feel like it was anything difficult, they totally listened to what she asked for and gave her exactly that. I know that we will all definitely be returning. Excellent value for money. Would recommend to anyone, especially families with children

It looked like a cool place right from the start,
I wandered in with my two teenagers and immediately greeted by the friendly staff. The food was absolutely wonderful, from the flavour to presentation, very pleasing. Was peaceful and relaxing.
By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit .
We will be back ! Thanks so much♡

The Bar and cafe surroundings are magnificent if you like a bit of history of the place itself, the place is warm and inviting with a lovely outdoor setting.

We were made to feel welcome and the staff were friendly, the food we had was lovely and very tasteful. We didn't wait long for the food to be served after we ordered, same as the dessert, lovely.

Will most definitely go back.

It was a quiet night at the Wigram Bar and restaurant. However, we enjoyed our meals. Jim's blue cod looked great and he enjoyed it. I had the House salad and prawns which was good too. We had dessert each which finished our meals beautifully. Jim enjoyed Cassel's porter beer on tap.

My daughter and I had a wee celebration dinner for my graduation. The resturant was very clean and the table well presented. The server was very friendly and efficient. The food was served fast and was hot. We ate everything, and my daughter had a large ice cream Sunday which I didn't think she would eat all of it. But she did

We were very well looked after by the one waitress as we were the only 4 people there. Enjoyable meals although my steak was a bit overdone. The blueberry cheesecake and sticky date puddings were delicious.

At first sight definitely not my thing, however the nod to Wigram as an air base was a cool vibe. Food simple and very friendly service!!

Very tasty meal and the service was great. Spoke to our waiter about both our coffee and meals not being hot and he was most apologetic. If this problem was rectified it would be a 5 stars all the way for my guest and I.

The food was nice, but lacking in desserts. The waiter was attentive and very good. The decor was tired and needing upgrading.

Our second time at this restaurant. Fabulous experience seeing the memorabilia of the past.
Menu was great, and to our liking was a choice of the low alcohol Sav Blanc.
We had an under 5 with us and they looked after all of us perfectly.
Recommend this venue for any evening meal .

The service of the lady was really good! She was friendly and had awesome manners. The food was great and a range of wine choices but they only disappointing thing is that they had sold out of banoffee pie!! :-( but overall it was good.

We had a most enjoyable meal. I think there is a new chef as menu had changed from the sample on First Table. We enjoyed pork belly with prunes and crumbed cauliflower (didn’t really need the extra steamed vegetables ordered) and pan fried gurnard. All good.

The Harvard was easy to find and was able to park directly out front. We arrived early and were greeted and seated and allowed to order early as well. It was a little bit cold when we arrived but it soon warmed up. The atmosphere was pretty quiet with no other diners coming in while we ate but the service was excellent. We opted for the platter for entree which was nothing special though the bread was nice. We ordered the steak and the pork for mains which were both cooked excellently with generous portions. Overall it was a good experience with good food but lacking in the wow factor.

The place was warm and clean. We were the only people there but still we waited about 25 minutes for our entrees. The bread was really dry and the dumplings were quite cold. The mains came out and the mixed grill was luke warm and the sausages barely cooked. Won't be going back again
