Feed your body and calm your mind at Town Tonic, Christchurch’s favourite all-day hangout.

Chef Jamie Bennett (Passengers + Co, Riccarton House Bistro, The Local and creator of the Christchurch Farmers' Market) knows a thing or two about seasonal produce and his menus are like an edible tour of the local region.

The dinner & lunch menus are certainly inventive. For dinner trust the Chef with his 5-course tasting or 5-course plant-based tasting menus. Or go A la carte with the fish, Cloudy Bay clams, potato, chorizo and light curry velouté or the grilled broccoli, cashew satay, chilli oil, quinoa, banging herbs. Delicious!

For breakfast, tuck into eggs every which way (breakfast tacos, anyone?) or opt for something light and nourishing from the ‘honest’ section. Crushed potatoes with walnut pesto and mushroom parfait is the sort of veggie plate that could get even hardcore carnivores drooling.

Fine Kiwi and Aussie wines and light, bright interiors that will have you reaching for your camera are the icing on what is already a very attractive cake. And with menus changing every six weeks to reflect what’s in season, there’s always a reason for a return visit to Town Tonic!

We chose the Chef's choice and this experience was the best choice. We were treated to 7 dishes of exquisite tastes. It was great value for our dollars and five star food.... honestly please keep this place going in these challenging times. These guys are the best!!!

We really enjoyed our dining experience at Town Tonic, the food was great, I had the chilly chilly bang bang fried chicken and loved it. My husband really enjoyed the Canterbury lamb rump. We both enjoyed our desserts, lemon polenta cake and milk & chocolate dessert. Friendly staff and great service. Thanks Jamie and the team.

Town Tonic was a perfect place to celebrate a recent family birthday. The menu suited us with good choices with vegan and non vegan selections available. My daughter said her Mushroom Alfredo was delicious as did my son with the Carbonara. The Lamb, again very good and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his salmon. Desserts went down a treat although I thought my choice of Lemon Polenta cake was the best! Also enjoyed were the Milk and Chocolate and the Chocolate coated banana. A great drink selection and we all left feeling very complete. We will defintely return.

Nice atmosphere for our anniversary meal. We had to use a napkin to prop up a corner of the table to stop it rocking but didn’t mind that at all. We started with the fried free range chicken... so juicy and with the greatest crunchy coating. The truffles potato skins were lovely too. A great start.

Our mains were the Southland lamb rump and the mushroom alfredo. The pasta was unfortunately very bland with hardly any mushroom flavour to notice. Staff were very responsive and brought it back with extra white wine, lemon and salsa verde. At least they tried to make it better...

The lamb was astonishingly good. It was cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth. The crust was delightful and the sauces were both perfect compliments, reminding us of Turkish experiences. The eggplant was a big surprise. It was as nice as the lamb itself! The salad added the much needed freshness on the plate. This lamb dish more than made up for the pasta.

To finish, we had the layer cake. It was good, but the lamb will stick in my mind for a long time. It was the best lamb dish I have ever tasted. Thanks Town Tonic!

The atmosphere at Town Tonic is very relaxed, but interesting, with an open kitchen. A massive gin selection blends perfectly with the ever changing and delicious menu. The food was with us in perfect timing, not leaving us thirsty or hungry for a moment. Love this place; fascinating, delectable dining paired with friendly, helpful and chatty service staff makes it a very memorable experience. With only two service staff, it was sometimes a trick to get their attention as they were busy. However, we did arrive when the place was at peak capacity.....Thanks Town Tonic!!!

Tonic room had a great atmosphere, was reasonably busy but we were served in timely fashion and the menu was explained with ample time for us to decide. The potato skins we had as a starter were my favourite with some great flavours. There were 3 of us and we shared 4 platters and all had awesome flavours the lamb was cooker perfectly. We even indulged in 2 desserts between the 3 of us which all had such interesting flavours. Would definitely recommend and I will be going back

Town Tonic has a nice vibe and it was a good choice for lunch. We had both decided on the seafood pasta but when two delicious looking dishes went past we asked our waiter what they were and promptly changed our order to the loaded chicken. It didn’t disappoint, being both delicious & generous in size. The service was good and we would happily dine here again!

We ordered the "Trust the Chef" option for myself and my partner, a 5-course degustation journey. It was excellent - not one dish I would ever have ordered for myself and each one more enjoyable than the last. The chef was worth placing my trust in. The food at Town Tonic exudes skill and a sound understanding of diverse ingredients. I have yet to have a dish there that wasn't delightful and thoughtfully considered. The wine list had a selection of unusual wines, and they were excellent and reasonably priced! I left dinner with a new favourite wine and a resolution to try more chamois.

We had a great breakfast at Town Tonic, a place we didn’t even know existed before looking on first table. A smaller size menu but a good range and variety of dishes and our four meals were all absolute delicious and beautifully presented. My eggs bene has to be one of the best I have ever had, slight chilli in the sauce was amazing and the potato hash, full of chunks of potato was a brilliant change from bread. Beautiful contemporary decor and friendly efficient service. We will definitely be back

We were first in, but the place soon filled up. We ordered oysters and Tahr from the "wild" blackboard menu. The staff were happy to accommodate our request for two different options with our 6 oysters, which were delicious. The Tahr was something we have never had before but the staff were more than happy to answer our questions and describe all the dishes available. We tried the striploin and the cappaccio which were both a real treat. We finished with a Chocolate Cloud and a Cheese board which were also enjoyable. You can tell that the staff all real "foodies" and it showed in the service as well as the great food. We would definitely came back here again and recommend it to others.

We had a fantastic night at town tonic last night before the theatre. The food was exceptional, especially the beef cheeks and the Cauliflower done several ways. The chocolate dessert was sublime... we really should not have shared!! Def recommend.

Great service I enjoyed my meal although it was disappointing that 3 of the menu options were not available or limited in what sides you could have.

I booked through First table for our anniversary dinner but it wasn't the best choice. It is 100% cafe rather than dinner dining place. I booked it because I wanted to have chef's choice 5 tasting plate. However the main chef was away and we had to order just a la carte.

Food was amazing and I am more than happy to be back for breakfast or brunch. But if you want some nice atmosphere with your partner for dinner, it might not be right place.

Casual dinner with friends will be absolutely fine. And this deal is great! Definitely recommend to visit.

Food was innovative and really tasty. Service was friendly and well timed. Easy parking for dinner out in Christchurch during the week.
A bit lacking in atmosphere was the only negative.

Have been here before for dinner which I highly reccommend and will definately be back for many more. Lunch was also very nice but I wasnt keen on the very warm bottle of tap water already on the tables which had obviously been there for some time as we were there for about an hour and a half and the bottles on all the other tables were still there as well. Apart from that everything was great. Probably wont go back for lunch but dinner is a definate.

Loved the entree of pork belly and soba noodle salad but the main was disappointing as the lamb rump was very rare and I wish i had been given the choice of how i would like this served as i like well done steak :( Dessert was back on track and really tasty. :)

When we walked in our table was nowhere to be found even when the tables were empty they weren’t sure what to do with us, however they were kind and said to wait won’t be long. Seated and offered drinks, ordered our food - came out and it was yummy. Loved the seafood pot! Overall it was a good experience

Nice environment. Big meals. I ordered eggs bene with chicken. Was really looking forward to the chicken, coating nice but just not sure about the chicken...wasn't the best part of the chicken I thought. Eggs were served on a large hashbrown which was really good. Nice change from bread. We would go back again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and are still talking about the beef cheek. It was soooo tender and just delicious with the pumpkin and divine mushrooms on top. All the food was outstanding and the liver parfait was also a standout. The service was great and friendly although double checking our order would have meant we got our chicken as well. Luckily we were plenty satisfied without it so turned down the offer to make it for us.

We were First Table customers. The place was not busy, being early in the week. The service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive. A good selection of beers and wines. Kitchen specials were clearly visible and 'explained.' Didn't have to wait long for our orders which were sizeable, appealingly presented and very tasty. The lamb was especially tender and cooked to perfection. The octopus is a 'must-try' suggestion to other diners. You won't be disappointed. Thoroughly enjoyed our three-course dinner though we'd both overindulged, the chef will be pleased to know. We'll be back.
