Cuisine: Greek, Mediterranean, Turkish
Price Point: Mains from $25 - $35

Embrace the Aegean tradition of coming together for simple, beautifully home-cooked food and top-notch hospitality.

This is European food, but not as you know it. Inspired by adventures through Greece and Turkey and the home-style cooking favoured by Turkish Chef and co-owner Zeki, Lokānta serves up hearty Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean dishes.

From Lokānta’s famous octopus, to flatbreads, fresh caught seafood ,flaming haloumi, and seasonal dolma, the food reflects the region with robust flavours. There’s plenty of options for meat-eaters and vegetarians and all of the dishes are cooked with the honesty and passion of a great home-cooked meal. For dessert, try coconut and almond baklava with a modern twist or relish the subtle flavour of real Turkish delight.

Sit back and relax in the homely restaurant with a glass of Greek (or a more local NZ) wine. Embrace the spirit of Lokānta, gather your loved ones and select a wide range of small and large dishes to share and savour.

I took my brother to Lokanta for his birthday as we had never tried it but been told it was worth a visit - was it ever! We both have fairly good appetites (blame it on the height) and went prepared to feast.

Our absolutely lovely waitress came along and we asked for 4 dishes from the small plates menu 'just to start with.' Just a few tastes of the smoky eggplant dip, caramelized roast carrots with pistachios, Greek-style loaded fries, haloumi with roasted pepper and aniseed flambe (I know right!?) and we were in heaven.

We had fully intended to try the mains but decided that we just had to try the rest of the starters menu! No regrets - delicious flavors, generous serves and each dish unique and interesting.

My brother somehow convinced me to try the Coconut/Almond Baklava with fresh cream and orange (despite me now feeling embarrassed at how much food we had put away) and I will dream about it forever! Thanks for an amazing experience - we'll be back.

Lokanta is an amazing Greek/Mediterranean restaurant. My partners half Greek and he is a tough critic when it comes to Greek food.
Mythos (a delicious greek beer), so much hummus and fresh vegetables. The item we could not go passed last night was the slow cooked lamb. Tastes just like Yiayia's - melts in your mouth with so much flavour. You will definitely be seeing us again. Thanks!

I just cannot get enough of this place! We live around the corner so Lokanta is our 'go to' restaurant. We have probably been 15-20 times and have never been disappointed. Last nights dinner was AMAZING. The Beef Rib is honestly one of the most tender, tasty meals I have ever had....in fact, that was my partners meal...I almost fought him for it! I had an equally tasty Lamb special, but oh that Beef Rib with pomegranites and figs...Yum. Wonderful, friendly and efficient staff as ever, and a homely vibe. I am just so happy we live nearby otherwise I might have to pitch a tent outside the place.

Exceptional. They had just changed their menu for winter and we loved every dish we ordered. The lady that served us had a big warm genuine smile on her face from start to finish, she was just lovely. To have both great food and great service is a rare thing these days. Next time we’ll be booking this restaurant directly as using first table felt like a disservice to what we would have happily paid full price for and a very large tip! Well done Lokanta!

Ambience, food, service. This place gets top marks on everything! Beautifully authentic feeling makes you feel like you’re on the other side of the world - It always brings out reminiscent travel stories of everyone I bring here.

The food at Lokānta is amazing. My husband and I both had the grilled swordfish and it was cooked to perfection. It is great to have a “full meal”, that is one that there is no need to buy side dishes to make up the meal!! The staff are very friendly and service was great. I like the decor in the restaurant. It is warm and cute! We will go again.

We hadn’t been to Lokanta in a long time - we totally forgot how incredible this food is. Everything was delicious! Especially the eggplant dip and haloumi bruschetta. Highly recommend. We can’t wait to to go back.

Well, after driving past lokanta every day I can safely say it’s worth the wait! It was really difficult not to order everything off the menu but our lovely waitress helped us narrow it down - we definitely had a case of eyes bigger than our stomachs.

The tzatziki is incredible and the food really authentically Mediterranean, that combined with Greek wine and music I almost thought i was in santorini!

Thank you for the lovely dinner, we’ll be back soon to order the other half of the menu!

We Just LOVE this restaurant! Authentic Aegean menu with deep flavours from Turkey and Greece.

Dining in the quaint space, amongst life-size photos of local villagers (personally taken by the owners), soaking up the flavours with warm, fresh-baked breads, licking our fingers transported us right to the Aegean coastline. We felt like we were sitting in a little street café, watching village life go by...

Our table was served the daughter of one of the Turkish owners who told us how her father and his business partner regularly travel back to the Agean villages to bring back new and fresh menu ideas. Now we know why the feel is so perfectly authentic!

Highly recommended. (Although we feel like we should keep it a secret!)

Thank you First Table for yet another affordable evening out!

Lokanta was absolutely amazing. My partner being from a greek background, he just felt like he was at home. The decor, the music and the authentic food was just like we were back in Greece. The best touch was the Pils Hellas beer option! Thanks Lokanta for a great dinner

Lokanta was absolutely stunning! Food was great, atmosphere was so lovely and service was top notch.

Ordered the flaming saganaki, harissa prawns, sticky beef cheek, and 2 specials. All were delicious, but my favourite was the harissa prawns - smoky and flavourful with just the right amount of spice.

We ended the meal with the baklava which was fantastic! It was unlike any baklava I've had and was fresh and not cloying at all. I would 10/10 recommend the baklava.

One thing great about this place was the location. Just off Ponsonby which made parking a breeze to find without being too far away from the hustle and bustle of Ponsonby Road.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend everyone to give Aegean & Eastern Mediterranean cooking a try - you'll love it!

The restaurant is in an area which we never would have visited if not for First Table. We usually go to Ponsonby Central. Since dining at Lokanta yesterday, it will be one of our go-to restaurants whenever we are in Ponsonby. The food, ambiance, and the staff made the experience 5/5. For the appetizers, we had the mussels and the octopus; for the main, we shared the beef cheeks; and for dessert, we had the baklava and the mousse. Everything was delicious and we can't wait to go back to try the rest of the food on the menu. Thanks Lokanta for making the drive to Ponsonby worth it!

Nice homestyle restaurant with a wonderful menu. For a starter I had chargrilled octopus: fava puree, rocket, lemon it was very tasty.
. I didnt know what to choose for my main Pythagoras’ roast cauli slab, walnut & mild chilli hummus, spinach & brown lentil braise sounded wonderful. But I opted for the fish of the day which was swordfish and it didnt disappoint. I also could have opted to have a couple more of small plates instead as they were enticing the menu is good. Service was helpful and came with a smile. Would recommend this family style restaurant

Dine here all of the time...although usually a bit later than 5.30pm. Friendly and efficient staff, as always...and the food....well, some of the best food we have had in Auckland. We have never been disappointed with any aspect of a meal here...that's why we keep going back. Truly thankful we live around the corner so we get to visit it as often as we want!

We were greeted with a warm smile and a lovely cozy interior .The menu was clear and tantalizing with some familiar items such as Hummus and smoky Eggplant Dip to start or to share then onto the main event including goat, a fabulous Slab of Roasted Cauliflower, sticky ribs and a Spanakopizza.
I chose a very interesting Red from California and my husband tried one of the greek beers.
We were so happy with the size of meals that we had no room for a dessert sadly..so next time we will try the other intriguing dishes on offer.
All and all we had a lovely night and highly recommend this homey and welcoming Eatery.

Three of us went to Lokanta and all three of us really enjoyed our food . We had the swordfish, lamb and goat for our mains and the chargrilled octopus and eggplant dip for entrees. Far to full to eat dessert but want to try next time. Would highly recommend this place. Caters for most dietary needs and good street parking.
