This was not the first time we had eaten at The Commons. We really like the atmosphere and the service has always been friendly and prompt. Probably the biggest attraction is there is plenty of choice of well labelled gluten free meals to choose from which gets my vote every time. Would highly recommend eating there to everyone.

We booked this to take my 83 year old Grandma out when she was staying with us from out of town and we had a great time. She has been raving about it ever since and loved her prawns!

We went there for Friday night out dinner, the food was nice, we enjoy the polenta chips, pork belly tasty tender and the skin is crispy. would like to dine in again.

The Commons is a bustling little venue. Waitresses checked in regularly, but not too often! Scallops for entree, cant go wrong! Veal and pork belly for mains and, oh my life! Well presented and tasted divine. Rhubarb tart for dessert was quite sweet, but that's personal taste, my fellow diners loved it. I don't frequent Takapuna often but would go back for sure!

The Commons is a cool place to enjoy a meal together with friends and having dined there before, its great they are now part of First Table. I got to catch up with a good friend who has been overseas for 3 years and going early meant we could talk and laugh to our hearts content without encroaching on other peoples conversations in the booth next to us!The sharing plates were perfect for us to share before she went for dinner with her fiance. The cinnamon apple cake was delish to finish off our time together... Well done First Table for providing the opportunity for this experience. I'ts my second one this week having dined at Euro with a girlfriend for my birthday lunch and we have another first table booking at the weekend with our son when he fly's in from out of town. If you're dining at Euro, the pineapple & tapioca curd dessert with tamarillo & pineapple sorbet is to die for...beautifully light with softness of the tapioca (not like what Mum used to make!) and the crunch of thinly made pineapple crisps, could eat it all day...and the service at both The Commons and Euro was attentive and helpful when it came to selecting the most tastiest food to enjoy.

Delicious food. Didnt have our first choice of the shared rib eye but steaks were delicious. We shared the 3 desserts and the unanimous favourite was the chocolate mousse. Definitely would return and recommend.

It was a great Summer evening, we enjoyed a glass or two of Rose in the dappled sunlight in the courtyard and then dined inside. Very nice and efficient waitstaff. The pate and arincini risotto balls were delicious, followed by a huge portion of fish and chips and the shared steak dish which was wonderful. Too full for desert - great evening and a highly recommended venue.

The four of us had a lovely evening at The Commons. As we were arriving early we had a drink in the Garden Terrace next door and were lucky they had Happy Hour.
Our meals were all excellent - Fish of the Day and Chicken. Despite it was only the second working day of our waiter, he answered our questions professionally, albeit some of them after consulting the more experienced staff. High marks to him!
All in all we highly recommend a First Table at The Commons and we will be back again.

Great first experience with First Table. I was worried that we'd get rushed through the night but we enjoyed a very leisurely evening with no pressure at all. It had also occurred to me that upon arrival we might find out there were some limitations to what we could order due to it being a discounted deal. No such problem at all - the menu was vast and the food was gorgeous. Wonderful service also - really friendly lovely staff. Great experience and we'll definitely be booking again.

Fantastic dining in the garden. In this crazy time with the virus drama, the staff were still super friendly, helpful, cheery and attentive. We appreciated the welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, we had pesto chicken pizza which was one of the best I've ever had. We also shared fried chicken and beef meatballs. The chicken was probably the best I've had! The beed meatballs we didnt enjoy too much.
We'd happily go again :)

We had the whole place to ourselves dining at at he Commons. The restaurant space has an old industrial feel to it and we had a lovely booth with plenty of space for the two of us. The prawn entree was delicious with four large prawns beautifully presented and the salmon skewers with ponzu and Asian slaw also very good. The lamb rack and steak dishes were cooked really well and blushing when you cut into them. There was a side salad served with the dishes but to be honest there was plenty of food as the portions were generous and the salad wasn’t really required. Great food great flavour.

Wow - highly recommend this place to you all! We were running late and a wonderful gentleman by the name Mark welcomed us in despite running rather late. Am forever grateful for such great service! Will definitely be back xx

Excellent staff very attentive. The fried chicken to start was tasty but quite greasy. The surf and turf was cooked well but not much taste to the prawns. The burger was tasty. The side of chips over overcooked. The broccolini side was the best with silvered almonds.
The wine of choice was out of stock, so they offered another choice of e menu.

Absolutely cool atmosphere close to the beach in Takapuna. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Chicken burger and lamb main were delicious and the calamari rings entree are a must! Pretty big portions too so if you're hungry, this is the place!

Pro tip: if you're ordering the lamb rack, specify medium-rare or it'll come out medium-well. Other than that, this was a standout meal. The bread and dips were especially tasty.

The restaurant was quiet but the service is very slow. My husband ordered lamb rack, and it was cooked to well done. So he spoke to one of the waitress and they change it for him. The second replacement plate came fairly fast and the meat is medium-well. Another diner ordered pork belly, from plate you can see that it is dried. When she cut on it she said it is very dried.

When we were asked by, presumably the restaurant manager about the meal, he is the most arrogant and impolite of all because when we provided our feedback, he just responded it rudely.

My friend and I went to the ladies, and it is filthy to look at because the "rubber toilet pump" was just beside the toilet with some "brown" stuff on it.

Tried for the first time and we were not disappointed. The ambience is lovely, love the mix of natural timbers, booth tables and greenery. The food was excellent and the staff attentive. Bonus was that the music wasn't too loud, love getting in early before things get too busy and noisey. We'll be back.

Delicious food, good surroundings. More vegetarian options would be good - it seemed every vegetarian option was based on mushrooms.

Sydney Ensor

Loved the mains and entrees
So much flavour in the basics (potatoes, carrot and mushroom)
Sauces matched well with the polenta and calamari

We ordered the apple and cinnamon cake for dessert and were a tad underwhelmed with this. Would have been nice to have a biscuity texture on top so it was less sloppy.

Waitresses were polite and happy to help us!
