We went to Basalt for a late lunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed our meals. We ordered the karaage chicken, caesar salad and chorizo hash browns. All of them were really tasty and decent proportions. We'll be back.

Restaurant was really busy so service was a little slow. Altho we ordered mussell entree and it got mixed up so they gave us a full mussell which was really good & lots of apology. Just bit slow on drink orders. Very good tho!!

Our steaks were overcooked (Asked for Medium - was well done) and the waitress seemed uninterested. Have to say, the Owner (or Manager) turned up and things definitely stepped up from there. Had the steaks there before and it was cooked perfectly.

Atmosphere was buzzing. On a cold evening the temperature inside was just right, there was a really nice fire going at the fireplace. We were pleasantly surprised with the variation of flavours of the dishes. Service was excellent and our meals all arrived quickly despite how busy the place was. Definitely would recommend and dine in again to try other plates on the menu!

We are regular visitors to our local Basalt but had never booked using First Table before. We had a giggle when we were seated as we were placed right by the front door which opened frequently with cold gusts of air. You get what you pay for right?! Other than that small negative the night was fantastic. The staff were attentive, refilling our water and checking in frequently. It wasn’t awkward when paying the bill and requesting our First Table discount, the staff member was efficient and knew exactly what to do to take our discount off our bill. And the food was excellent as always. Hubby ordered the Eye Fillet which was cooked perfectly to his liking (and smelled divine from across the table). I ordered the Prawn Tacos off the all day menu, the prawns were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and the creamy slaw and mayo was delicious. We also had a side of kumara fries, Basalt do the best kumara fries I have found. Crunchy like a regular hot chip and served with a pot of sour cream, just eat them quick before they go soft! And finally I got a dessert, not something I would usually do but as we were getting such a great discount with First Table we splurged. I had the Salted Caramel Creme Brulee and it was epic. Highly recommend Basalt, they have a great varied menu and the service is always on point.

Had a delicious meal at Basalt Howick, shared yummy popcorn prawns, the eye fillet was cooked to medium rare perfection and the slow roasted pork belly was deliciously tender. Ended on dessert with the salted caramel and deconstructed rose cheesecake...everything was spot on including the service.
