Welcome to Brasserie 74, a charming cafe by day and casual fine diner by night!

New owners Louise and Russell, from Greytown, took over a Greytown cafe and created Brasserie 74 in June 2017. From Australia to London and back again, this talented team have gathered over 30 years’ experience in fine dining kitchens. They are delighted to infuse their philosophy of exceptional cuisine and simple, fresh ingredients into Brasserie 74, using influences from France and the Mediterranean to create a European-inspired menu. From starters of seared scallops and twice-cooked cheese souffle, to roast lamb rump and seared tuna loin, there’s something delicious for the whole table to enjoy. Don’t forget to try one of their to-die-for desserts including seasonal crumble and chocolate fondant!

Located in the historic town of Greytown, nearby to local vineyards, art galleries and attractions, Brasserie 74 is the perfect cafe and eatery to relax after a day in the Waiarapa region.

The restaurant is nice and spacious with an open kitchen. Once the chef was cooking and taking things out of the oven, it got awfully yummy smelling.

Our starters were shot and pepper squid and the scallops. Both dishes were cooked and presented beautifully. Both the scallops and squid cooked just right, so tender. And flzvoursone.

Our mains were lamb rump anx the other risotto. Again both presented and cooked beautifully.

Lots of flavour. The dishes were enough for us and was unable to partake in dessert, which were some lovely offerings.

Recommend this restaurant. And the wait staff was very good.

Food was amazing especially the blue cod, steak and scallops. Our 3yo was well catered for throughout the night. Lovely front of house staff. Will definitely head back for dinner.

We experienced great service and felt well looked after for the night. The food was very tasty and well presented, particularly the chocolate fondant. My only suggestion would be to have a small number of dishes available for children as only adult sized/priced dishes could be ordered and that can be difficult and costly with fussy kids. In saying this, I did ask about that option and the chef very kindly made an exception and provided something from the lunch menu for my daughter, which was really appreciated. This restaurant is in a great location within the shopping area.

Had a great night out at Brasserie 74 with our party of four. Was only one other couple in the restaurant the whole night which did effect the ambiance but couldn't fault the food- was delicious! Would recommend and hope it gets a little busier!!

My partner and I had a wonderful meal at Brasserie 74 to celebrate her birthday. Our meals were full of flavour and beautifully presented. Our waitress was most pleasant and helpful. My partner particularly enjoyed the Goats Cheese Souffle. We will certainly come back and we will recommend Brasserie 74 to our friends.

I can see why Brasserie 74 consistently rates 5 stars. The food was superb, absolutely no complaints, clean plates and appreciative murmurings. Top marks to the chef. On the downside there weren't many choices for our Vegetarian and we would have liked a coffee to finish but the machine was turned off. We'd go back for sure.

Greytown was as cold as charity on a midwinter's Saturday night. The town funeral black as we made our way to Brasserie 74. As we walked to the Main Street Hub the clear chilled night air caught the back of our throats, extremities starting to numb as we yearned for the comforts of light and warmth.

The welcoming lights were on in 74 as we slipped inside. A generous smile and the comfort of a warmed interior banished the outside world. We were seated and ready for action!

I observed on the Gordon Ramsay TV shows that service, and indeed the pace of it, is essential to a good dining experience. Well this was spot on. Orders taken, wine served and the food served a regular intervals. Not too fast and rushed but you were also not left hanging around either.

Gordon also informs us that the menu should not be too extensive if cooking fresh to order. Well 74 gets this right as well. Around 5 choices for starters and mains. So another thumbs up!

But its all about the food isn't it? We have resided in Greytown for 7 years and this would top most of our dining experiences in this jewel of a town nestled in the heart of the Wairarapa.

The warm cheese souffle was rich, strong in flavour balanced by a side of salad and a sweet berry sauce. My wife's scallops and chorizo embraced the delicate of seafood with the meaty and hearitnes of the sausage.

The main event was rich succulent duck in an orange sauce that was not overpowering. Across the table delicate salmon with the crispiness of a well cooked and seasoned skin pleased my wife. We indulged in a chocolate souffle with warm sponge and a hot runny dark rich chocolate centre.

This is top class cuisine with generous portions - we left the restaurant full to the brim.

All in all a cracking way to spend an early Saturday evening. Our hats are off for Brasserie 74. We will be back!

Great meal for 4 with the exception of 1 serving of duck. Chef was extremely apologetic and in any other circumstance would have refunded but we had 50% off.
An up and coming restaurant which deserves to do well

Can I stay there and have brekkie, lunch and dinner? I wish I could! Food was superb! I ordered the crab lasagne, blue cod and plate chocolate. Everything was nice from the ambiance to zervice! I will definitely be back. My only wish though is that people go to this place and try their amazing food and service!

Delicious food and great environment. We thought we could get away with taking our pre-schoolers, being the first table of the night, but it probably wasn’t a good idea! Main took about 50minutes to arrive (though we did get kids food earlier). Next time we’ll leave kids at home, and enjoy our food at leisure.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Brasserie 74. Our waitress Sherrie was a delight—very friendly, engaging, and professional. Along with our meals, Sherrie was a highlight of our evening.

The chef was obviously at the top of his game. Every dish was incredibly tasty and well presented. We were particularly impressed by how he cooked our respective mains (salmon, duck, and beef) exactly to our taste. The arrangement and flavours of ingredients in each dish were highly pleasing to our eyes and tastebuds.

Our desserts finished off our meal with a flourish—feijoa crumble and ice cream, berry cheesecake, and chocolate fondant with latte gelato....mmm

The food was excellent, and attractively presented. In fact, our party of 4 indulged in all three courses, as just reading the menu had us all salivating with delight.
As some of us had hearing problems,we asked for the background music to be turned down and this was done with good will.
The service was unobtrusively attentive.
Thank you for a very enjoyable dining experience.

We had a wonderful meal, both of us could not fault our choices. We loved the combination of ingredients. Very tasty without there being too many conflicting flavours. Service was excellent too. The only suggestion we would like to make would be about the ambience of the restaurant. Perhaps some candles, and rearrangement of tables might enhance the dining experience.

What a memorable night personal service excellent presentation and flavours of the food of master chef standard or better crafted by the chef and co owner showing off his skills learnt from running and owning restaurant in London. Would have to rate up there as one of the best undiscovered restaurants in the Wairarapa

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. The main course we both had the best grilled to perfection steak consisted with chips and a salad It all was followed by delicious scoop of ice cream for dessert. Very friendly staff.
